About

Spyros is a Partner and co-leads the firm’s Dispute Resolution and Commercial practice groups. One of the most reputable commercial litigators in Greece, his expertise spans almost every field of commercial and company law as well as white-collar crime law. He acts for major corporates, financial institutions, multinational groups and private investors on high-stakes commercial disputes, arbitrations and regulatory proceedings, and has appeared before the European Court of Human Rights, the Court of Justice of the European Union and ICSID — compiling an exceptional record in both national and international dispute resolution over a career of more than four decades.

He is long-standing legal advisor to ELFE S.A. and has represented ELFE in major antitrust and competition cases, including landmark unfair-competition proceedings against DEPA S.A. — with appeals before the Supreme Court — and abuse-of-dominance litigation against PPC S.A. in the industrial electricity market. He represented Sportingbet plc before the Court of Justice of the European Union in Joined Cases C-186/11 and C-209/11, following a preliminary reference from the Greek Council of State — a landmark ruling that found OPAP’s exclusive gambling monopoly incompatible with EU free-movement principles and reshaped the Greek betting market. He represented the Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi across civil and criminal proceedings arising from the Vatopedi land-exchange affair, one of the highest-profile cases in modern Greek political history, securing full acquittal of all defendants and successful defence of civil claims. He has acted for ENIC International Ltd in complex commercial proceedings connected with the acquisition of AEK Athens F.C., and has served for over a decade as legal advisor to the Mamidakis Brothers Group (Mamidoil-Jetoil S.A.), one of the largest privately held fuel and energy groups in south-east Europe. His client roster extends across sectors: he has acted for Japan Tobacco International and for leading international clients including Amazon, Mars, Mango and Camper on commercial matters in Greece.

Beyond his client practice, he has made a substantial contribution to the development of Greek commercial law, serving on the law-drafting committee for Section Seven of Law 4072/2012 on partnerships and on the committee preparing the draft of a new Greek commercial code. He is a Board Member and Secretary General of the Association of Greek Commercialists, a member of the editing committee of the Athens Bar Association’s legal journal Nomiko Vima (NoB), and the author of dozens of publications in both Greek and international legal journals. His expertise has been recognised internationally

Clients value his strategic judgment, meticulous preparation and ability to navigate complex national and international legal frameworks within the same matter. Whether steering a landmark Supreme Court appeal, coordinating a cross-border arbitration or advising on a sensitive regulatory investigation, he brings partner-level attention to every stage of the engagement and a rare combination of courtroom authority, commercial pragmatism and spherical legal knowledge that extends well beyond the courtroom — drawing on a command of corporate, regulatory, financial and administrative law to consistently deliver results that specialist litigators alone cannot.
